Grammarly vs ChatGPT: What’s The Difference?

Grammarly is a writing assistant. It helps the users edit the text and correct its grammar and language. Apart from that, it also has the ability to generate content through AI and check for plagiarism.

It is an all-in-one tool for writers to help them improve their drafts and content. It’s generative AI feature allows you to generate content or improvise the existing content.

Conversely, ChatGPT is an AI chatbot that can perform tasks based on the user’s prompt.

Regarding writing, it can generate detailed and creative blogs or articles on any topic except those based on the latest news

It also proofreads the content and improvises the writing style of the writers. Plus, it also helps to check the grammar and spelling of the content. You can also summarize the text with the help of ChatGPT.

Who Is Grammarly Suitable For?

Grammarly is a suitable tool for all professionals working in the writing niche. You can use the tools to check the text’s spelling, grammar, clarity, and engagement. It makes your draft better and provides an edge over others.

Besides, the Grammarly GO AI tool is best for generating short-form content like social media posts, emails, outlines, etc.

Who Is ChatGPT Suitable For?

Additionally, ChatGPT works for literally everyone, depending on the prompt you give it. You can use it to create new content or generate ideas. Moreover, you can also use it to improvise your existing content and figure out content gaps.

Which Has Better User Interface?

Grammarly and ChatGPT both have a diversified user interface. However, both tools are easy to use and can be easily handled by beginners.

In Grammarly, You must simply copy and paste the content into the editor to check for spelling and other writing mistakes. Grammarly will provide suggestions to improve your content and make it clearer.

Conversely, in ChatGPT, the users must provide a prompt like Proofread this or Correct this and then copy and paste their article into the text box.

You can ask ChatGPT to make your article more personalized or creative by providing a prompt to the Chatbot.

However, one thing I like about Grammarly is that it gives suggestions for changes and displays the changed text as well. On the other hand, ChatGPT makes the changes in the text, and then I will have to figure out what changes are made by opening the original and the edited draft side by side.

AI Content Generator: Our Tests

Grammarly recently launched GrammarlyGO, which helps writers to generate AI text. You can set the voice or the tone of the article and provide Grammarly with a prompt that includes all the required instructions to generate the content.

On the other hand, ChatGPT is an expert in generating content according to the prompts provided by the users. You just have to provide a detailed prompt that includes the tone, number of words, creativity, level, and other parameters that ChatGPT should consider while generating your content.

After going through the above description, you may want to know which tool generates better content with the help of AI. Hence, we have tested ChatGPT and GrammarlyGO on different parameters to find the one that generated better content.

Test 1: (Simple how-to guide)

I asked Grammarly to generate a personalized blog on “How to write a book review.” Here’s what it generated:

How to write a book review

I provided a similar prompt to ChatGPT, and it generated the following blog:

Note that I have used ChatGPT code interpreter to generate the above content. However, on using the free version of ChatGPT, the tool could not generate a blog or a code interpreter; however, it was on the same creativity level as Grammarly Go.

Test 2:

I asked both the AI tools to generate content on Grammarly alternatives, and here’s what they generated.

Grammarly generated a list of 5 alternatives and provided details about each alternative which was quite basic, and some information was not up to the mark.

While ChatGPT provided an article with the same 5 alternatives ranked differently. However, the main body of each platform was detailed and included accurate information.

Here is the response generated by ChatGPT.

Test 3:

Lastly, to check how AI assistants generate content on the latest topics.

I asked GrammarlyGO to generate an article on “ChatGPT code interpreter,” and it generated an article with partly accurate information.

Next, I asked ChatGPT to write an article on ‘Grammarly Go review,’ here’s what its response was.

Which Is Better At Grammar Checking?

Here the winner is Grammarly. No doubt about that. Grammarly has been doing this job for years and is an unbeatable tool for Grammar checking

All you have to do is copy and paste your article into the Grammarly editor, and you get suggestions for improving the spelling and grammar of the article.

Here’s how the Grammar checker works on Grammarly:

Grammarly checks your sentence formations, spelling, clarity of the sentences, and engagement of the text. However, if you use the free version of Grammarly, you will receive limited suggestions and corrections. The premium version is the most suitable option for checking the Grammar of your text.

ChatGPT code interpreter first provides the users with the details about what can be improved in their content and then provides a final version of the text with changes.

Summing up, ChatGPT explains to the users the mistakes they must avoid, but Grammarly Premium won due to its suggestions and proper display of the sentences and phrases that must be changed.

Grammarly vs ChatGPT: My Experience

In my story, neither of them is a villain because, for me, both tools have created wonders to generate content. One tool helped while writing, and another tool made sure that I didn’t run out of ideas.

Let me give you a practical example!

As a rookie content writer, I was struggling with maintaining one writing style in the same content and creating readable sentences (I was more into the, write like you speak style). Not only that, but I also occasionally struggled with writer’s block.

That was when I started using Grammarly’s free version for better sentence framing, grammar checking, and much more.  But recently, when ChatGPT came into the picture, I was not sure which one I should stick to.

I tried using both of them individually, but that didn’t fit right with my working style either. Then, I started using both tools simultaneously, where I held hands with each of their strength and generated high-quality content.

I use ChatGPT and Grammarly together. If you download the Grammarly Chrome extension, you can directly use it on ChatGPT. While ChatGPT already provides pretty grammatically correct, it falls short somewhere. To fill this gap, you can directly use Grammarly and make sure your output is entirely error-free.

You can try the same and let me know how it worked for you! 🙂

Pros And Cons: Grammarly Vs ChatGPT

Grammarly Pros

  • Assists in writing while fixing your writing style.
  • Provides multiple-word suggestions.
  • Give you real-time analysis of the content.
  • Suggests rewrites for better sentence structures.

Grammarly Cons

  • You might stop learning grammar and completely rely on Grammarly.
  • GrammarlyGO cannot generate long-form content.
  • Limited generative AI prompts, even with the paid version.

ChatGPT Pros

  • Helps tackle writer’s block.
  • It works best with specific prompts.
  • It can be used for a wide range of tasks.
  • ChatGPT’s creativity can be molded unlimited times.
  • The fluency of the content is top-notch.

ChatGPT Cons

  • ChatGPT-generated information is not 100% reliable.
  • The tools bring the risk of plagiarism.

Overall Analysis: Is Grammarly Better Than ChatGPT?

Grammarly is clearly outperforming ChatGPT when it comes to AEM (Automatic Evaluation Metrics).

However, ChatGPT’s extraordinary ability to give all the results at once rather than playing with each error one by one goes beyond expectation and suggests extra changes to the actual expression of the phrases and sentences.

Moreover, in my experience, both tools have played their significant role and have their own unique strengths.

By saying each of their strengths can be used strategically, I mean Grammarly with Grammarly Go can be used for writing assistance, Grammar checking, sentence framing,  generating small social media blogs, etc.

You can implement ChatGPT to proofread your content and ask for overall changes and suggestions along with new ideas to implement in the content.

Furthermore, since ChatGPT doesn’t work as a plagiarism checker, you can leave that up to Grammarly.

Plus, I will suggest avoiding copying content from ChatGPT and only using it to generate ideas to tackle writer’s block. If you do otherwise, it might lead to the risk of plagiarism.

At the last, both tools are equally helpful if used simultaneously while implementing the right strategy.

Each tool caters to different purposes. Grammarly is best as a writing assistant who helps you to analyze your content in real-time and avoid errors while you write them.

On the other hand, ChatGPT is an amazing AI tool overall.

The best way is to use ChatGPT and Grammarly together and see the ultimate power of writing!
